The CAVITEX-CALAX Food Adventure

After the successful run of CAVITEX Lasa ng Republica Food Tour last year, CAVITEX-CALAX (Cavite Laguna Expressway) will bring together purveyors from various areas of Cavite to one venue for Viaje Feliz: Lasa ng Republika 2, The CAVITEX-CALAX Food Adventure.

Out-of-town food festivals, heritage food tours, and small-town restaurants serving ultra-local food outside of Metro Manila have become a trend among young people who are constantly searching for unique and authentic food. With new-found mobility and disposable income and by sharing their experiences on social media, this new breed of consumers is growing exponentially and businesses are now taking advantage of this lucrative trend.

The missing ingredient when it comes to promoting any food destination however is a safe and accessible road that can connect consumers to businesses. A priority project of the government’s thrust for infrastructure building, CALAX will ease travel through the fast-growing areas of Kawit, Imus, General Trias, Dasmarinas, and Silang in Cavite, as well as Sta. Rosa and Biñan in Laguna, and will also provide a new corridor for a safe and reliable commute through Southern Tagalog. The P34.5-billion CALAX will start from CAVITEX in Kawit, Cavite and end at the SLEx-Mamplasan Interchange in Biñan, Laguna. With eight interchanges and one main barrier, it will consist of a 45-km long four-lane expressway between these two points through congested residential and industrial areas in Kawit, Imus, General Trias, Dasmarinas, and Silang in Cavite, and finally to Sta. Rosa and Biñan in Laguna.

With an expected completion date of 2020, an estimated 5,000 jobs will be created during the construction phase of CALAX. Employment will be generated, not only by those who will design, build and operate the facility, but also through the creation of other jobs and economic opportunities for those who invest, work, live or commute within the Cavite-Laguna corridor.

To celebrate its recent groundbreaking activities and to introduce the eight exits of CALAX and the appreciation of CAVITEX’s connectivity to Metro Manila, Viaje Feliz: Lasa ng Republika 2, was conceptualized to sustain interest in the CALAX project by introducing some of the more notable foodie destinations in Cavite.

Organized by CAVITEX and CALAX with Sponsors and Partners, EasyDrive, Cavite Provincial Tourism Office, Municipality of Kawit, Aguinaldo Shrine, Floritas Grill, Siglo Modern Filipino, and Brookfield Colleges, the event is scheduled to take place between 9am to 4pm on Saturday, 15 July 2017. A full program of curated activities will include a mini food festival showcasing selected Cavite purveyors, an organic produce and crafts market participated in by members of the Association of Women in Organic Farming, cooking demonstrations by invited celebrity chefs with students of Brookfield Colleges, cocktail mixing and bartending exhibition by Likido Maestro, tours of the shrine, children’s activities, and music, dance and cultural presentations by the students of Cavite National High School and Teatro Baile de Cavite.

Aguinaldo Shrine was chosen as the event venue, not merely for its significance in our history, but because it is also the mid-point between CAVITEX and CALAX.

Participating purveyors include Malens, Salinas Food Corp, Aro-en Salt, Big Ben’s, Calle Real, Asiong, The Wild Juan, Pangarap Foundation Inc., Anvil Publishing and SM Supermalls (The Food Village). Media Partners include Go Cavite, Drink Manila and Explora.ph. powered by the Republic of Taste Food Network.
